At the beginning of this project, we read about the European Unión (EU). Today we are going to see the role of Spain as a member of the EU. How we managed to join the union and also why it is so important for us to be in.

Read and listen on pages 80, 81, and 82 (including the blue box Lifestyle) of your TB.

*Set the dates of these pages on your Timeline pointing the dates in a special mark (for example with a star to distinguish this dates from those you already have on you Timeline) and answer one of the following special questions*:

How your family felt about the change from pesetas to euros? (Ask your parents or grandparents. If you want you can record the answers with your favourite device, either mobile, tablet or computer and tell them that is for a radio program).

Al comienzo de este proyecto leímos sobre la Unión Europea (UE). Hoy vamos a ver el papel de España como miembro de la UE: cómo hicimos para entrar en la Unión y porqué es tan importante pertenecer a ella.

Lee y escucha las páginas 80, 81 y 82 de tu libro (incluyendo el cuadro azul “Lifestyle”).

Ve los recursos de Aula Virtual Santillana sobre este tema:

*Coloca las fechas que aparecen en estas páginas en tu línea del tiempo (marcándolas con una señal especial, por ejemplo una estrella o asterisco, para distinguirla de otros sucesos importantes de nuestra historia) y contesta a una de las siguientes preguntas especiales*:

Since our Constitution was approved Spain has separation of powers. We have talked about this many times in class, so this task is a review of what we studied previously. The Head of State is the King and the real power of the country is in people's hands throw their vote.


Read and listen to pages 75 and 76 of your TB.


*Copy and complete the diagram on page 41 (ex.14) of you AB by looking at the diagrams on pages 75 and 76 of you TB* (mind that members of each branch are on page 75 and functions on page 76). NOTE: You can also do it like our Mind Maps way.

SPAIN IN DEMOCRACY. Task1 Week11

Fortunately, in 1975 the dictatorship came to an end with the death of Franco on the 20^th of November. Then, Juan Carlos I (grandson of Alfonso XIII), became king of Spain, and he promoted many changes to bring our country to be a Democracy.

In the beginning, things were not so easy since many people who were prosecuted during the dictatorship wanted revenge, and those who wanted the dictatorship did not want any change. They all finally came to the agreement that the relationships should be reconstructed in order to put Spain on the track of the more developed countries. This period was named THE TRANSITION.

Later our current constitution, CONSTITUTION OF 1978, was approved and since then Spain is a democratic country with a parliamentary monarchy.

Read and listen to pages 64,65 and 66 of your TB.

Afortunadamente en 1975 la dictadura terminó con la muerte del Franco el 20 de noviembre. Entonces Juan Carlos I (nieto de Alfonso XIII) se convirtió en Rey de España y promovió muchos cambios para llevar a nuestro país a ser una Democracia.

Al principio las cosas no fueron nada fáciles, pues mucha gente que fue perseguida en la dictadura quería que se hiciese justicia (que es lo que hoy se ha llamado Memoria Histórica y se conmemora el 14 de junio) y otros que estaban a favor de Franco no querían que nada cambiase. Finalmente todos llegaron al acuerdo de había que reconstruir las relaciones para llevar a España al camino de los países más desarrollados. Este periodo se conoce como LA TRANSICIÓN y todos hicieron un gran esfuerzo para conseguir la concordia.

Después nuestra actual constitución fue aprobada, CONSTITUCIÓN DE 1978, y desde entonces España es un país democrático con un una monarquía parlamentaria.
